New Mexico Lottery Sells Tickets for $2 Million And $1 Million Powerball® Prizes

ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico Lottery players won more than $3.4 million in last night’s Powerball® drawing, including one ticket for $2 million, one ticket for $1 million and three tickets for $10,000.

Last night’s drawing numbers are 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and a red Powerball of 6. More than 66,600 tickets won prizes in New Mexico.

Players are encouraged to sign their tickets immediately. The prizes of $2 million and $1 million must be claimed in person at lottery headquarters in Albuquerque.

The jackpot, which jumped from $550 million to $587 million by drawing time, was won by a ticket sold in Arizona and a ticket sold in Missouri.

Four-Day Sales of $4.9 Million

When the Powerball jackpot rolled to $550 million, sales exploded nationwide. Between Sunday and 8 p.m. yesterday, the New Mexico Lottery sold more than $4.9 million in tickets.

“During yesterday’s evening commute, players bought tickets at the rate of $7,400 a minute,” said New Mexico Lottery CEO Tom Romero. “The jackpot grabbed people’s attention and imagination and introduced many people to Powerball for the very first time.”

New Mexico’s Millionaires of 2012

In 2012 to date, the New Mexico Lottery has sold nine tickets winning a prize of $1 million or more, seven of which have been claimed.

Larry and Cynthia Martinez of Blanco won a $1 million Powerball prize in January.

Patrick and Sharon Yazzie of Chinle, Ariz. won a $1 million Powerball prize in March.

Robert Platt of Albuquerque won a $1.54 million Hot Lotto® jackpot while James Larson, also of Albuquerque, won a $1 million Powerball prize in April.

Danny Garcia of Veguita won a $1 million Mega Millions® prize in June.

Justin Laugherty of Las Cruces won a $1 million Powerball prize in August.

Michael Vigil of Santa Fe won a $1 million Powerball prize in September.
