Powerball® Jackpot Raised to $610 Million

1/4/2022

ALBUQUERQUE The estimated Powerball® jackpot for the Wednesday, January 5, 2022 draw has been raised to $610 Million.

This is the 7th highest Powerball jackpot in the game’s 29-year history. If the jackpot prize lands in New Mexico, it will beat the state’s previous record jackpot of $206.9 million shared by nine Powerball players from the Roswell area in September 2008.

New Mexico Lottery CEO, David Barden, reminds players, “This is a very exciting jackpot, but please remember to play responsibly.”

Responsible play and safe practices also include signing your ticket. Lottery tickets are bearer instruments. Players should also sign their tickets upon purchase as scammers may increase their activities during high jackpots. Please remember that the Lottery does not know who the winners are and will never ask for money for players to claim a prize. More information on Lottery Scams can be found on the Lottery’s website at nmlottery.com/beware-of-scams/.

New Mexico Lottery players have until 8:00 p.m. MT on January 5, 2022 to buy tickets for the next Powerball drawing.

How to Play Powerball

Last August, Powerball added a third weekly draw night on Mondays to produce bigger jackpots, generate faster-growing jackpots, increase the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded to players and increase contributions to funding vital public programs and services in each jurisdiction where the Powerball game is sold.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Drawings are broadcast live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Powerball drawings are also live streamed online at Powerball.com.
