Higher Education Department announces that more than 116,500 students have received Legislative Lottery Scholarships to attend college since 1996. More than 66,000 of those students have already graduated from college.
November 12
Lotto America, a new multi-state game, launched. The game features a $2 million starting jackpot and costs $1 per play with an “All-Star Bonus” multiplier feature. Drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. A special introductory jackpot of $15 million was introduced with the game’s launch.

Mega Millions re-launched. The redesigned game features a $2 price point, a starting jackpot of $40 million and better odds of winning $1 million prizes and higher secondary prizes. A new feature “Just the Jackpot” was also introduced. This feature costs $3 for 2 Quick Pick plays and the tickets are for the jackpot only – not for any other prizes.

- James Aragon of Moriarty claimed his $1 million prize on Sept. 5
- A group of seven friends/coworkers from Albuquerque claimed their $200,000 prize on Aug. 25
- Angela Baca of Los Lunas claimed her $50,000 on Aug. 24
- Grayson Stanford of Albuquerque claimed his $50,000 prize on Sept. 18

Leonard Bulmer of Albuquerque claimed his $1 million Mega Millions prize from the August 18 draw.

Lottery ends Fiscal Year 2017 with revenue of $37.8 million on net sales of $126.1 million.

VIP Club ‘Points and Rewards’ Promotion expanded to include Roadrunner Cash and Pick 3 tickets. Introduced in 2015, the promotion offers players a second chance to win prizes. Each month, one lucky player wins $5,000 cash and 300 players win points, which can be redeemed for an assortment of items from the online Prize Store.

Powerball celebrates its 25th Anniversary. When the game launched in 1992, there were 15 participating lotteries and a $2 million starting jackpot. Now, the game has 47 participating lotteries and a $40 million starting jackpot. Since its inception, $37 billion in prizes have been won, there have been 356 jackpot-winning tickets and the game boasts a world record jackpot of $1.586 billion. The New Mexico Lottery has had five Powerball jackpot winning tickets.
