Roswell Residents Win $50,000, $25,000 Prizes from New Mexico Lottery

ALBUQUERQUE – Good fortune came to two Roswell players who won top prizes playing New Mexico Lottery Scratchers.

Jacqueline Carcamo won $50,000 playing the lottery’s “Roadrunner CrosswordScratcher. Carcamo told lottery officials in Albuquerque Wednesday that she wanted to get a new car and put a down payment on a house.

Carcamo bought her lucky ticket in Dexter at the Food Mart store located at 6534 S. Main St.

Nestor Avila said he planned to make investments with his $25,000 windfall. After revealing the five-figure prize in the lottery’s “Blazing Hot 7s” Scratcher, Avila said he threw his hat into the air.

Avila, who also claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Wednesday, purchased his lucky ticket at the Allsup’s Store located at 520 E. 2nd St. in Roswell.

Since 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has raised $553.2 million for education and more than 82,600 students have attended college on Legislative Lottery Scholarships. In the past 16 years, approximately 3,000 students from Chaves County have attended college on $11.2 million in Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
