New Mexico Lottery Director of Gaming Products Receives Distinguished Powers Award

08/22/2016

ALBUQUERQUE – Karla Wilkinson, the Director of Gaming Products for the New Mexico Lottery, has received a distinguished “2016 Powers Award” from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL). Ms. Wilkinson was the very first employee at the New Mexico Lottery more than 20 years ago. Nominated by Lottery CEO David Barden, Ms. Wilkinson received this award in recognition of her significant contributions and exceptional performance at the Lottery.

“This year was the most successful year in transfers to the Legislative Lottery Scholarship fund in New Mexico Lottery’s history,” said Barden. “Ms. Wilkinson’s role was invaluable in that it directly impacted sales that led to the record transfer.”

The Powers Award is the most prestigious award you can receive in the Lottery industry. It is synonymous with success and only a handful of people are recognized each year with this coveted award. The award is named in honor of the late Edward J. Powers, known as the “Father of all U.S. Lotteries.”

Ms. Wilkinson is responsible for all New Mexico Lottery gaming product lines including planning, development and creation. She was a key figure in the launch of “Super Tuesday,” a new program that introduces new Scratchers the first Tuesday of every month, which led to a 19% increase ($13.3 Million) in Scratcher sales over the last two fiscal years.

The Lottery celebrated its 20th anniversary on April 27. Since 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has raised $700.9 million for education and more than 100,000 students have attended college on Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
