Alamogordo Woman Wins $125,000 New Mexico Lottery Prize

ALBUQUERQUE – An Alamogordo woman claimed a $125,000 jackpot from the New Mexico Lottery Tuesday.

Candy ten Boom’s quick-pick ticket the March 12 Roadrunner Cash® drawing matched the winning numbers of 10, 13, 16, 18 and 34.

Ten Boom didn’t discover her good fortune for nearly two weeks after the drawing.

Candy ten Boom“I have a habit of stashing tickets in my pocket book,” ten Boom said.

On Sunday, ten Boom went to a store to check tickets for prizes using a lottery self-service terminal. After scanning the last of 20 tickets, the self-service terminal displayed a message that read, “Claim at lottery.”

Her friend Tim Shaw told her what that meant.

“‘You’ve got a load of money coming to you,’” Shaw recalled.

Shaw accompanied ten Boom to claim her prize in person at lottery headquarters in Albuquerque.

Ten Boom, whose plans for her six-figure windfall include home improvements, explained her good fortune.

“I just try to be nice to everyone,” she said. “I believe that what goes around, comes around.”

Ten Boom bought her lucky ticket at the 70 West Chevron located at 1445 W. Highway 70 in Alamogordo. Previously, the store has sold 10 large prize-winning lottery tickets paying between $1,000 and $17,000. For selling a jackpot-winning ticket in the Roadrunner Cash game, the store is eligible for a $1,000 lottery bonus.
