Becky Williamson drove to the Logan Super Stop Thursday to purchase an energy drink and found herself unable to sleep all night. Along with her energy drink Williamson, a Logan resident, purchased a “Color of Money” Scratcher ticket. As she drove away, she realized that she had a $60,000 winner on her hands and quickly drove into the nearest convenience store to validate her ticket.
Coincidentally, Thomas Garcia, a friend of Williamson’s and a reporter for the Quay County Sun, arrived at the same store soon after and heard the commotion. He quickly switched into reporter mode, began asking questions and took photos of the new winner.
A still visibly shaken Williamson appeared at lottery headquarter in Albuquerque the next afternoon to claim her prize. “I was up all night,” she said. “I’m not sure if it was the energy drink or the Scratcher that kept me from sleeping!” The prize winner said that she will spend the money on her family members, most notably her seven grandchildren.
