ALBUQUERQUELights out.  Cue the creepy organ music and a blood-curdling scream.

To celebrate Halloween, the New Mexico Lottery’s latest Scratcher game glows in the dark.  Called “Glowing Ghouls,” the $2-game offers six ticket scenes that change in dark places to reveal the presence of ghosts haunting a hairy spider, skeletons rattling the nerves of other skeletons and menacing crows perching on a spineless scarecrow.  In the play area, potential winning numbers are concealed behind images of skulls and grinning jack o’ lanterns.

Available now, “Glowing Ghouls” features top prizes of $10,000.

The New Mexico Lottery is the first U.S. lottery to offer a glow-in-the-dark game.  Varnishes applied when the tickets were printed glow in the dark after exposure to a strong light source, such as a light bulb.

The ticket scenes were illustrated by Dominic Sedillo, 27, a New Mexico Lottery graphic designer and devoted fan of horror movies.

“I wanted to tell an unexpected Halloween story about witches and mummies who are being creeped out by their fellow ghouls,” Sedillo said.
